Privacy Policy BioSymposia, Inc. ("BioSymposia")


1. General

 

BioSymposia respects the privacy of every individual who visits www.BioSymposia.org (the "Web Site"). This Privacy Policy outlines the information BioSymposia will collect from Web Site users and how we will use that information.

 

2. Personally-Identifiable Information

 

There may be cases where BioSymposia will ask you for personally-identifiable information such as your name, mailing address, and email address. BioSymposia will typically request information from health care professionals in three different situations: (1) you have created a profile (2) you are signing up to receive email notices about BioSymposia activities and educational events; or (3) you are registering for an educational event.

 

We may use such personally-identifiable information for the following purposes:

  • Notifying you about BioSymposia activities
  • Registration for online or live educational activities that you have requested
  • Confirmation or fulfillment of an order or registration that you have requested
  • Answering questions or other requests by email or phone
  • Sending information that you request
  • Sending and processing surveys or contests
  • Solicitation of feedback from you to assess your satisfaction or other needs and interests
  • Creation of new tools, features, and services
  • Delivering certain services such as newsletters, meetings or events
  • Assessing and monitoring usage of the Web Site and specific features or services
  • Notifying you about new products/services, special offers, upgrades and other related information from BioSymposia and other approved third parties

BioSymposia will not collect any personally-identifiable information about you unless you provide it to us voluntarily.

 

When you view the website, we may store some information on your computer. This information will be in the form of a "cookie" or similar file and will help us to offer increased personalization and functionality. With most internet browsers, you can erase cookies from your computer hard drive, block all cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. BioSymposia will not disclose your personally-identifiable information to any third party other than: (i) at your request, (ii) to third parties to provide services on our behalf (which may include mailing services, production companies, publishers and survey tabulation consultants for individuals who sign up to receive email notices and may include program planners, registered attendees, a designated travel agency, venue representatives, exhibitors, joint or co-sponsors and production companies for individuals who register for an educational event), (iii) as required by law, or (iv) to private entities and law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate. If we disclose your personally-identifiable information to third parties (other than government officials or agencies), we will request that the recipients of such information maintain the confidentiality of such information. Except as stated in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise stated at the time personally-identifiable information is gathered, we will not provide personally-identifiable information to third parties who are not under the direction and control of, or operating on behalf of, BioSymposia.

 

3. Children

 

This Web Site is intended for health professionals. This Web Site is not directed at individuals under thirteen years of age. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and do not collect personally identifiable information from any person we actually know is a child under the age of 13.

 

4. Information Collected Automatically

 

BioSymposia may also automatically collect non-personally-identifiable information about your use of the Web Site, such as the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account), the date and time you access the Web Site, and the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our Web Site. This information will not be linked to personally-identifiable information unless, during the registration process, or at other times during your use of the Web Site, we ask for and receive your permission to link your non-personally-identifiable information with your personally-identifiable information. BioSymposia may use your non-personally-identifiable information to analyze and enhance the Web Site, and may aggregate this information and share such aggregated information with service providers, Web Site sponsors and other third parties.

 

5.Your Rights to View and Correct Information Submitted Voluntarily

 

In most cases, the tools that collect and store personally-identifiable information allow you to correct, update or review that information (and any preferences) by logging-in to the specific service and making the desired changes to your profile or registration information. In most cases you may also request that your information be deleted; terminate your election to receive email notices; withdraw your registration or inquire about your personal information maintained by BioSymposia by sending us an email at [privacy@biosymposia.org].

 

6. Your Rights to Opt-Out, Opt-In, or Limit Specific Uses and Disclosures of Your Personally Identifiable Information

 

You may, at any time, request through the Web Site or otherwise that BioSymposia send you certain information (such as announcements or newsletters) by email. When you register for an educational event through the Web Site, you may also be asked whether you want to receive certain information (such as announcements or newsletters) from BioSymposia by email. If you request or agree to receive information by email but change your mind at any time in the future and no longer wish to receive such information by email you will be able to Opt-Out of receiving these notices by: (a) going to your profile page within the applicable BioSymposia service; (b) following the directions included at the bottom of any newsletter issue; and/or (c) sending us an email at [privacy@biosymposia.org] and we will take you off the applicable list. You should be aware that you are generally able to request to receive notices categorized broadly by clinical specialty. You may add or delete specialties. You may also Opt-In to receive communications from us and our partners by similarly following the instructions above.

 

7. Links to Other Web Sites

 

The Web Site may allow links to various other web sites. BioSymposia assumes no responsibility for the information practices of web sites you are able to access through the Web Site. These links to other sites do not imply affiliation or endorsement of a linked site.

 

We encourage you to look for and review the privacy statements of each and every web site that you visit through a link or sponsorship notice.

 

8. Security

 

The importance of security for all personally-identifiable information associated with visitors to the Web Site is of utmost concern to us. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be secure. As a result, BioSymposia cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you transmit such information to us at your own risk. Once we receive your personally-identifiable information, we will take reasonable efforts to ensure its security on our systems.

 

9. European Union Web Site Users

 

The Web Site contains information primarily intended for U.S. residents. Web Site users based in the European Union (EU) are advised that the EU has found that the U.S. generally does not provide an adequate level of protection to personal data for purposes of the European Union Data Protection Directive. We will therefore collect such personal data from you only after obtaining unambiguous consent from you to the transfer of the personal data through your acceptance of the terms of this privacy policy. We will also take steps as described in this policy to protect your personal data from loss, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

 

10. Your Acceptance of These Terms

 

By using the Web Site, you signify your assent to the BioSymposia Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not use the Web Site. Your continued use of the Web Site following the posting of changes to these terms will mean you accept those changes. BioSymposia will, however, use personally-identifiable information only in accordance with the version of the Privacy Policy under which the information was collected.

Use of the Web Site is governed by the BioSymposia Legal Statement.
